Instructor: Deborah Kapoor

Learn the essentials of hot wax painting, an ancient technique known as “encaustic” and create a group of display-ready small art pieces. Encaustic work is valued for its visual depth, delicate layers, and beautiful expressive range.

Practice applying layers of melted wax, fusing, texturing, embedding objects, carving, transferring images, mixing collage techniques, and creating shapes with stencils.

No prerequisites. Class designed for all experience levels.
Location: ArtEast Art Center

Stay All Day! Register for both morning and afternoon summer camps and stay from 9am to 4pm each day. Remember to bring a sack lunch.

Optional Lunch Bunch available from 12-1pm. Cost is $30 for the week. (If enrolling in both AM & PM camps, then Lunch Bunch fee is waived). MEALS NOT PROVIDED.

Supply List

All supplies included but you are encouraged to bring interesting papers, dried natural materials, absorbent stencils (not plastic), fine threads, etc.

Each student needs to wear studio appropriate clothing. Please bring a nut-free snack and labeled water bottle to each class.

About the Instructor

Artist Deborah Kapoor earned her Master of Fine Arts at the University of Delaware, and Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of North Texas. She is published in magazines Fiber Art Now and Surface Design Journal, and the seminal book Encaustic in the Twenty-First Century by Ashley Rooney, and numerous other publications showcasing encaustic. In her work she translates details of physical and perceptual embodiment, merging painting and sculpture into dimensional, textured surfaces.

Kapoor has exhibited widely in the US – at Square Foot Art Basel Miami, Tacoma Art Museum, Trenton City Museum, Ukranian Institute of Modern Art, Seattle City Hall, Confluence Gallery in Twisp, WA and at Suzanne Zahr Gallery, Mercer Island for her solo installation INTO THE PINK.
