Instructor: Vicky Zomenou
Location: ArtEast Art Center – 95 Front Street North, Issaquah, WA 98027
Explore wax modeling as a method for creating a piece of metal jewelry. At the end of this two-day workshop you will select your best wax model design to be sent for casting in either Sterling Silver or Brass to later take home as your own special jewelry piece. One of the processes of designing jewelry is to carve the design first on wax before making the form. Wax is a very malleable and beautiful material to work with and allows the artist to make either simple or complex forms. Students will sculpt soft wax to produce organic shapes; carve the design on sheets of hard wax; solder different wax pieces together; and receive ongoing instruction. As tools and materials are introduced, students start simply, then add details and refine work for casting. The instructor will do the final finishing (e.g. solder earrings to the posts) to student specifications. All the wax materials and tools will be provided by instructor.
Open to all levels.
Class fee: $189/member $210/non-member
Additional Costs: Each participant has the option for casting their designs either in Brass or Sterling Silver, the cost for this is extra: Brass – 13$ per piece- up to 6 dwts and Sterling Silver – 17$ per piece – up to 6 dwts . Weighing each wax piece will be done in the class. This cost covers: postage +packing + insurance, service of the casting company, cost of the metal, as well as finishing & polish-ing of the jewel so that it is ready to be worn. Each student will pay at the end of the workshop in cash. The casting takes about 2-3 weeks.
