Art Demos: Wood Turning with David Lutrick

Father’s Day – Sunday, June 16th 10:30am to 5:00pm

The Gallery is open early today in conjunction with Fenders on Front Street

Location: ArtEast Art Center – 95 Front Street North, Issaquah, WA 98027

Stop by and watch ArtEast artist and Board of Directors member David Lutrick as he turns chunks of wood into finger spinning tops on a lathe. David also belongs to the American Association of Woodturners and is on the Board of Directors of its Seattle Chapter as well.

Using various hardwoods, he will shape the tops with a variety of turning tools on the lathe. He will use a texturing tool or other special lathe tools to embellish the surface of the tops, and then they will be finished with a sharp point to spin on. Using markers, colored patterns can be applied by hand while the tops are spun mechanically. The textured surface and colors produce eye-catching patterns on the tops when they’re spun. We’ll also have a coloring station close by for the kids to color a top of their own to take home!
