Small scale sculpture that is worn on the body is uniquely portable art and puts the wearer on display with the piece. The choice of wearable art is not always practical, but certainly invites notice by others. In fact, wearability may be incidental to some pieces made by studio artists today. Colorful or monochromatic, diverse in fabrication techniques, and of materials ranging from precious to nontraditional, art jewelry can make many different statements. This show seeks limited edition or one of a kind works which reflect skilled design and craftsmanship, and inevitably, beg for attention.

Submission Guidelines

This is an open call for a juried exhibition in our Collective Works Gallery. Artists residing in the Greater Puget Sound area are invited to submit.

• Artists may submit up to three (3) new original completed works to the jury.
• Items submitted for consideration must be the items that will be in the show, if accepted.

Exhibition Expectations

• Artists must sign up for a volunteer job to help with the show.
• A signed Gallery Release form, and an Artist Inventory listing each piece of accepted art, must be presented with your work at intake.
• A current W-9 must be on file or presented during intake for you to be paid sales proceeds 45 days post event.
• All sales will go through the UP Front sales desk.
• A 35% commission fee will be taken on all exhibition sales.
• Purchased artworks will remain on display through the end of the exhibition.
• Artists are responsible for reading and following gallery guidelines and expectations.

To apply to the exhibition:

1. Prepare your .JPG files to the following specifications:
• 72 dpi
• Maximum dimension no more than 1200 pixels
• Each file less than 3MB
• Rename your files with your last name and a number. For example: Doe_01.jpg, Doe_02.jpg.
2. Fill out the following form and upload your image files.

A copy of the completed form will be sent to you via email. The curators will make every effort to let you know if any information is missing, but it’s your responsibility to ensure that your information is complete. If you have any questions, please contact cwjewelry12@arteast.org  or call (425) 392-3191.

If you do not have access to email, or have any trouble submitting this form, please print this page, fill out the information, and mail with a CD of up to 3 JPG files to the following address. Your submission must be received before the deadline & materials cannot be returned.

Join artEAST’s own premier figure drawing group for a canine figure drawing studio session!  Guided by instructor Ellen Borison, members of the group will be drawing an established set of dog models.

Saturday June 16 2:30–4 pm

Visit the gallery and see the show with your own pup!  Gallery guests may bring in well-behaved and leashed dogs during these posted times.

For pups with energetic tails, the back entrance will also be available for access to the show.

Families with school-aged children who are learning to read or developing greater confidence to read well are invited to come to artEAST and read to established “Reading with Rover” trained dogs and their handlers.  The dogs all promise to be calm and compassionate listeners, so please bring readers with the capacity to sit and read quietly with the dogs. Library rules apply.  To learn more about the “Reading with Rover” program, go to www.readingwithrover.org.

Our featured speaker, Jacqui Beck, who delighted us with her talk on Trees in Art is back to discuss her work, her process, and what it takes to create our own masterpiece in art and in life.  This salon will be well attended so please stop in, (we will be sure to save you a seat!)  See below for a little more about Jacqui, her impressive bio, and her well regarded subject matter on art and creativity.  We are sure to be inspired and enticed to move forward with our own “masterpiece”!  We look forward to seeing you there.  As always, there will be food and drink and lively conversation with plenty of time for questions and ponderings…

April 2012: Suzanne Tidwell

This month in the front window: Spring Camo by Suzanne Tidwell, 64” x 48”, knit & crochet wool & mohair, $6800. Here’s her story of the piece:

It began as an observation of the sudden sprouting to life that happens every spring.  Damp and dreary stumps explode into life each year and within a matter of weeks the original dark surface is completely transformed.  I began by knitting a large surface of netting, created by the repetition of strategically placed holes.  This surface was then embellished with many different knitting and crochet techniques.  The entire piece was fulled and felted until the desired effect was finally achieved.  The final piece can be draped over any surface at any time of year to create the appearance of spring regardless of the current conditions.
