Tin Art Workshop

10am–5pm Saturday, January 20

Instructor: Nia Michaels

Hammers, tin and shears – oh my! Join instructor Nia Michaels for a full day tin art workshop at the artEAST Annex:

In this class, you will explore working with decorative tins (cookie tins, tea tins, etc) to create colorful, textural pieces. It’s like collage, but with metal and lots of tiny nails!

Bring as much tin as you can to be able to choose from an array of colors and patterns. You’ll build your own tin art piece on a wood panel from repurposed tin. We will learn simple techniques as well as focus on theme, color and composition. No art background required.

All tools provided. Please bring more tin and your lunch.

About the Instructor
After working in painting and mixed media for many years, Nia Michaels gave in to her long held obsession with decorative tins. She now works exclusively in tin and is drawn to the intricate patterns, the range of colors, as well as the effects of aging: rust, dents, scratches and fading. Nia Michaels has been creating art from tin for over 10 years and teaching for the past several years.
