Encaustic Layering Techniques

10am–4pm Saturday, March 24, 2018

Instructor: Deborah Kapoor

Discover the ancient technique of encaustic painting. Made of beeswax, damar resin and pigment, it is recognized for its luminous layering capacity to build rich surfaces. The process involves heat fusing layers of paint together to create smooth and textured finishes. Basic techniques are covered in this workshop including incising, transfers and stencils.

Encaustic layering is a luminous tool that will add depth to your existing artwork. All levels of artists welcome. All supplies provided. Please bring images of past artwork if you have them.

In conjunction with our Encaustic Exhibit at Blakely Hall this winter, artist and instructor Deborah Kapoor will be teaching this special course along with her participation in the Encaustic show running January 16 through March 13, and an Artist Talk at Blakely Hall on Friday, February 16. We encourage you to experience the exhibit and attend the discussion.
