Painting from the Fire Within

10am–4pm Sunday, January 21

Instructor: Gail Baker

Process painting (Painting from the Fire Within) is done in an environment where criticism is absent, where the painter is free from constraints. Intuitive spontaneous painting is a practice of releasing habits and honoring opportunities as they arise in the process and in life.

Paint for the joy of the moment and/or to explore emotions and life changes. Paint in rhythm with your breath. Give yourself quiet, non-judgmental creative space and attention to your process. Receive respectful guidance, instruction, and support.

This class will allow participants to be present with brush, paint, and paper. It approaches art as a tool for self-discovery, awareness, and renewal. You will not paint from images but from the astonishing resource of your own original expression. We will be painting silently – using a gorgeous, liquid palette of professional grade tempera paint on full sheets of watercolor paper with soft brushes.

Students will leave this workshop knowing what it means to stay with themselves and their paintings through thick and thin. Tools are offered to deepen the approach to working with images that come up.

No art experience necessary. All materials are provided. Wear old clothes. Bring a lunch.
