Exhibit: “Put a Bird on It”

August 13 – October 1, artEAST Art Center

Reception Thursday, August 17, 6-8pm

Join us for this juried member show that celebrates our love for bird while also taking a playful approach to our traditional work.

What is it about birds that we all love so much? Is it the plumage that comes in so many colors or the personality of the scalawags that makes us laugh? Either way, we love them. The range of creativity in the art submitted for this show reveals just how much: lovely paintings of birds in their natural habitat, abstract Origami-shaped birds, bright birds in flight, a cow with text, and lots of color.

This show title has a bit of a double meaning. At face value the audience can see that all the art selected has a ‘bird on it,’ but among artists there is an inside joke that if you have an excellent painting and you want to make it even better, you ‘put a bird on it’ and it will sell right away. Whether this is true or not we will see. Since announcing the show we have been hearing about a “Portlandia” episode by the same title. Great minds think alike!
