Member Salon: Art for Social Change

The Gender Personal Project

7–8:30pm Wednesday, October 18th, with Jacqui Beck

The subject of gender is one that is relevant to all of us. It is in the news a lot these days and more and more people know someone who is transgender or gender variant. The intent of the Gender Personal Project  is to celebrate people who are gender non-conforming and to offer a way for the general public to learn more about gender identity and gender expression.

In this presentation, Jacqui will discuss her very complicated journey through the world of art that supports social change.  She will share about her Gender Personal project, the complicated road from inception to exhibits at Kirkland Arts Center and the Gender Odyssey National Conference.

She’ll discuss aspects of the project such as writing grants, interviewing and transcribing, presenting to the public, and applying for exhibit sites. She’ll show slides of the artwork and the exhibits and will share excerpts from the interviews and also some of her poetry.
