Our annual Swirl auction and gala takes place on Saturday, April 22nd. The theme of this year’s event is “Wildly Creative.” Between now and then, we’ll take you behind the scenes to reveal how our artist community is working together to create an imaginative, art-filled evening you won’t want to miss.
Anne Lindsay is one of our featured 3D auction artists. In this video, we get to see Anne in her metalworking space, wielding her torch and demonstrating a technique she uses on her metal mesh sculptures.
Anne creates sculptures on two different scales: larger, table-top designs that sometimes move, and smaller pieces used as components in her jewelry pieces.
In addition to creating pieces for the auction, our featured artists are also offering unique experiences that bring winning bidders into their workspaces and favorite places. Anne is creating a lakefront summer dinner experience that includes harvesting fresh greens, herbs, and edible flowers from her garden and of course a demonstration in her home studio.
We asked Anne what the “Wildly Creative” event theme means to her and how that shows up her in her work:
“I love to dream and visualize my next piece of art. In the middle of the night, I can see where to go next. I can go where I’ve never been before. What’s wonderful about dreaming and daydreaming, I can make really big sculptures or crazy jewelry that I have not made yet. It allows me to be wildly creative without limitations. I think that my real artwork is somewhat on the wildly creative side. The commercial grade wire meshes I use are usually in oil filters in large trucks and the silver mesh is used for medical devices. Why not use those materials for art? It’s unusual and that’s what has let me be a wildly creative artist.”
