April 4–June 20, 2017, Blakely Hall
Opening Reception Wednesday, April 19, 6–7:30 pm
Curator: Anna Macrae
These three artists work in plein air, painting outside to embrace the elements and making that first-hand connection to the environment that they skillfully capture. This method of working has many challenges and also many delights. The “success” of a painting is less predictable, due to the uncontrolled conditions. Being immersed in the atmosphere of the scene that they are responding to produces a very authentic representation and intriguing narrative.
To complement their work in plein air, there will also be a selection of landscape work that has been created in the studio. This makes for an interesting contrast to compare the two methods of working. Please join us and see for yourself.
