Jason Liekhus is a classically trained fine artist and East Side native. He holds a BFA from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, where he graduated magna cum laude in 2008. He has more than five years of experience teaching visual art and other subjects to children, teens and adults; he is multilingual and holds two California state teaching certifications. Jason is also a working fine artist, having exhibited his oil paintings in several commercial galleries and showcases. His work ranges from landscape and still life to figurative and sometimes surreal imagery. He paints in a classical and often photo-realistic style, but then adds hints of post-impressionist movement and color.
In the classroom Jason is a lively, casual and approachable instructor. The bulk of his experience came through his work at Art Attack studio in Burlingame, California. There he taught oil painting to all ages in group workshops five days a week; his lessons and approach to educating were honed during this period. Now he has returned to Washington with a view to build programs and opportunities for artistic people in the Seattle area.
Jason coaches through incrementally adding challenges to projects, while bolstering students’ confidence with feedback and a little art philosophy. He strives to cultivate a light-hearted, welcoming atmosphere where artists can still study real academic techniques.
