“Pysanky” Egg Painting Workshop on Saturday, April 5, 2014, 12–4pm
Enjoy a creative afternoon learning the ancient art of Pysanky in this class with Carol Ross at her Lake Sammamish home. You will apply hot wax to eggs using an electric kiska tool and dye the eggs in several colors. When the wax is removed, the colors shine forth like a stained glass window. Traditional Ukrainian designs or branch out and do any kind of design… or just make confetti eggs with random colored marks! You can expect to create 4-6 decorated eggs. Carol will share stories of the traditions and symbolism of this time-honored craft as well as instruction and inspiration on technique. All the supplies and equipment will be provided. Price: $60
“Creative Storytelling in Paint” Workshop on Sunday, April 13, 2014, 11am–4pm
Taught by Gail Baker at artEAST Art Center. Process Painting is done in an environment where criticism is absent, where the painter is free from constraints. It encourages exploration, the essence and flow of self-expression. Painting can be a powerful medium for growth, change, and healing if we are alive to the moment. This class will allow participants to be present with brush, paint, and paper. It approaches art as a tool for self-discovery, awareness, and renewal. You will not paint from images but from the astonishing resource of your own original expression. Price: $60
“Glass Beadmaking” Workshop on Monday, January 27, 2014, 10am–2pm
Taught by Jamie McKay at her professional home studio in Sammamish. Enjoy light refreshments and sparkling cider as you have fun learning to work with beautiful Moretti glass rod in the professional home studio of glass artist, Jamie McKay, in Sammamish WA. Torch and studio safety will be covered before you and three guests dive into the world of glass beadmaking on a bench mounted torch. We will begin by creating simple colorful bead shapes, and progress to using stringer and various tools to create surface decorations such as dots, ruffles and swirled texture. Your beads will be kiln annealed and ready for pick up the following week (at the studio or artEAST). Instructor will supply all glass, safety equipment, & tools, but please bring your reading glasses if needed. No experience necessary ~ just come prepared to have a blast working with glass in a flame! Adults only, 18 & over. Price: $90
“Down the Rabbit Hole” Mixed Media Workshop on Sunday, July 20, 2014, 11am–2pm
Taught by Jacquelyn Fedyk at artEAST Art Center. Explore the characters of Lewis Carroll’s epic tale “Alice in Wonderland” while learning techniques in mixed media and collage. All students will go home with a 4″x6″ character collage on wood. Price: $60
“Rustic Jewelry” Workshop, date to be determined
Taught by Larry Calkins at his studio in Issaquah. This workshop will take place on a mutually agreeable date. Art everywhere you look, inspiration in nature and hands on guidance from one of the Northwest’s most accomplished artists. In this workshop you will learn to create amulets, rings, chains, pendants, even tiaras from unusual and unexpected materials. Use found materials such as rusted wire, metal, old photos, string, wax, wood, rocks or shells that you collected on the beach, tiny doll parts, or beads you created beforehand, and anything else you have lying round. Examples will be provided as well as basic materials and tools. Please bring a sketchbook or paper for drawing ideas – or bring your completed sketches. A light lunch will be provided. Price: $100
“Watercolor Effects” Workshop, date to be determined
Taught by Betsy Dahlstrom at artEAST Art Center. This workshop will take place on a mutually agreeable date. Watercolor artist and instructor, Betsy Dahlstrom, offers this experience with spontaneous watercolor effects. This is a 2-hour workshop/social gathering including all supplies. Price: $65
“Paint Your Poultry” Workshop, date to be determined
Taught by Dorothy Bonneau at artEAST Art Center. This workshop will take place on a mutually agreeable date. Paint a portrait of your own favorite chicken! Everyone needs a chicken in their kitchen. We’ll use acrylic paint and everyone is welcome from beginners to advanced painters. The idea is to have fun. There will be lots of photographs of chickens and roosters to choose from or you can bring your own. This is a 3-hour workshop. Everyone will create a painting of their favorite chicken. All supplies provided by instructor. Price: $50
