Facilitators: Ellen Borison and Lee Berry
Bring your pencils, pads and paints (and a picnic) and spend the day at beautiful Cougar Mountain Zoo. There are options for everyone, from Figure Drawing to Animal Sketching to Plein Air vistas. Participants are welcome to make the most of the whole day or come for just one session, it is up to you!
Morning Session: Figure Drawing in the Magic Forest 10am–1pm
Our clothed model will pose in the Zoo’s Magic Forest amid bronze animal sculpture and termite mounds. This will be a gesture session (poses will range from 1 to 20 minutes in length).
Explore the shape, form, movement and markings of the zoo’s unique collection of animals including cranes, colorful macaws, emus, cougars, tigers, alpacas, wallabies, reindeer and lemurs. Or take time to study the zoo’s large collection of regional and exotic taxidermy specimens. While the “official” sketchbook session runs from 2:00 – 4:00 participants are welcome sketch the zoo’s collections any time during the day.
Perch atop Cougar Mountain and look out at an expansive vista of Lake Sammamish and surrounding hills and mountains. The views are open all day, session times reflect when a facilitator will be available if guidance is requested. The view is breathtaking, so if you are a dabbler or a dynamo, bring your paints and enjoy the day!
NOTE: does not include Zoo admission
