Guest Artist: Stephanie Dickie

July 2011

Artist Talk: Thursday, July 28, 6:30 pm

The front wall of our space features art by Stephanie Dickie during the month of July. Join us July 28th for a talk by Stephanie about her work.

From her biography at Columbia City Gallery, Stephanie says:

In my baby book I discovered an entry from my mother that says, loves to play  with clay, but I won’t have it in the house. Perhaps this is one of the reasons  I didn’t become an artist until my more mature years.

We’re glad she got back to it! Here is Stephanie’s statement about her work:

Most of my prints are monotypes, done on an etching press. These
one-of-a-kind prints are often a combination of several techniques, such as painting on the plate, hand rubbing, collage, clay prints, photo transfers, etc. The prints are often run through the press several times to achieve a multi-layered look.

Inspiration and ideas usually come from things I know and love: the garden and all its many inhabitants, my collections of things, interesting dwellings, old books and magazines, scraps of paper I pick up on trips. I also look to my favorite artists (mostly the Expressionists) Schmidt-Rottluff, Matisse, Rouault, Kirshner, Modersohn-Becker, Modigiliani, and a host of others.

Stop by and admire her work this month.
